About the Program

The Embrace Life^® Awards celebrate the achievements and life lessons of those who have overcome the loss of a loved one. Previously, the Awards went to women who had lost their husbands. This year, in recognition of the program’s fifth anniversary, State Farm^® opened the nominations to both men and women who have lost a spouse or parent. The 13 men and women chosen will be recognized in Chicago at the Embrace Life Awards Ceremony and then at State Farm’s Corporate Headquarters in Bloomington, Ill., where they will each receive $10,000.

State Farm began this community initiative to raise awareness that preparing for the future today can help protect families’ hopes and dreams. The Embrace Life Awards program honors those who have renewed their lives following the loss of a spouse or a parent, and educates individuals about financial preparedness so they can achieve their goals. It is State Farm’s goal to support men and women in embracing life everyday.

Your Embrace Life^® Story

You’re invited to nominate a special person (including yourself) for consideration as an Embrace Life Awards honoree. In an essay of no more than 1000 words, please share an inspiring story of how you, or someone you know, moved on after the death of a spouse or parent. Please tell us:

• A brief history of the nominee;
• How he/she moved beyond his/her grief to embrace life;
• The ways in which his/her experience changed him/her;
• Any life lessons he/she can offer other people facing a similar situation.
